Alkaline can save your life AND trim your waist line!

Friends, did you know that disease cannot live in a body that is rich in alkaline; did you also know that having an alkaline diet is also one of the easiest ways to lose weight? When I learned both of these facts, I became an alkaline lover, so much so that my diet is about 80% alkaline now. I am so proud of this, that I brag about it like fashion divas brag about their red soled shoes!

An explanation on what alkaline is can get really complicated, so I will keep it simple – heck that’s why I started this site in the first place!

Health is dependent on the pH of your body. The bodies natural pH is 7.35 – 7.45. Foods are all either acidic or alkaline. Foods that have a pH level from 1 through 5 are all acidic. Foods that have a pH level of 6 through 9 are basic. Basic is another way of saying alkaline or closest to your bodies natural pH, which is a good thing. Foods that have a pH of 10 or higher are the most alkaline foods.

I know, I know…so how do you figure out what the pH level is for the foods you eat? Again, remember I said that this could get really complicated…well I’m sticking to my word and keeping it simple.

Vegetables, fruits and some nuts are all alkaline, everything else is acidic. Here is an interesting fact about fruits: fruits are acidic because of their natural sugar, but when digested they are converted into alkaline.

So if vegetables, fruits and some nuts are the only things that are alkaline, does that mean everything else is acidic? The simple answer is YES. Now we all know that you cannot live off of fruits, vegetables and nuts alone, so it’s actually healthy to have acidic foods. The trick here is to make healthy choices and pick “less” acidic foods. Your choices will not only affect your health, energy and weight today, but will determine what your health will be tomorrow.

Not to scare you, but Cancer and many other chronic illnesses thrive in an acidic environment. Disease loves an acidic body!

To figure out if you are more acidic or more alkaline, all you have to do is answer one question: What do you crave right now? If you crave anything that is not alkaline, you are acidic!

The good news is that once you start training your mouth to eat more alkaline foods, your palate will change and you will begin to crave alkaline foods – I promise you, it’s true! I am living proof. Ok, I can go on forever, and ever and ever on alkaline, so I will give you a quick and dirty list on bad choices and better choices.

High Acidic: White Rice
Less Acidic: Brown Rice, Quinoa, Millet, Wild Rice

High Acidic: Sugar
Less Acidic: Stevia, Maple Syrup, Agave

High Acidic: Coffee
Less Acidic: Green Tea

High Acidic: Potatoes
Less Acidic: Sweet Potatoes

Anything with a bar code, artificial flavors, ingredients you can’t read, fried foods are all high acidic foods.

Anything that grows from the ground is alkaline!
