Day 34: Lessons of my journey

Take a HOLISTIC approach to your health. Holistic means taking a look at your health as a WHOLE.

When I dealt with severe depression in 2011 the doctors wanted me to shove truckloads of pills down my throat, but never asked or cared to question where the root of my depression was stemming from, and I was in such a dark hell that I couldn’t even begin to help myself. I was clueless on where to start and not one person could guide me.

I don’t have an opinion or judge anyone who does take medication. This is just my own personal experience.

In 2012 when Marlon was diagnosed with Cancer, I prepared myself for battle – not just his, but my own. I knew that if depression got a hold of me again that my kids could be left without any parents.

When your body and your mind are giving you signs that something is not right take it as a warning – compare that warning to the check engine light on your car. If you don’t take care of it, the car will break down. If it breaks down enough, you may end up getting a new car. Unfortunately we can’t do the same with our life.

Because today marks 11 months since I lost my husband, I prepared myself to drop kick any anxiety.

I got up at 5:30am, I prayed, did yoga, meditated, drank my green tea, dropped off my kids at school, and ran all the way home…and I juiced. I’m usually not that aggressive with my morning routine but I felt the anxiety creeping up.

Don’t wait till stress has a death grip on you, prevent it and take charge. Change starts with YOU!

HOLISTIC living is not just a new wave term it’s the answer to the balance we are all so desperately seeking.
